Phil Quinn

  • Holland,

(616) 222-0631 ext 744

Phil’s experiences growing up in a rural community, serving in the church, in human resources, and in
social justice work have made him passionate about walking alongside people who have experienced
marginalization and trauma in the workplace, in the church, at school, and in their communities –
especially around issues related to sexuality and gender.

Phil earned a Master of Divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary in 2015 and a Master of Arts
degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University’s CACREP-accredited program
in 2023. He originates from the Upper Peninsula and has worked as a mentoring program coordinator,
director of human resources at a Mackinac Island resort, director of life skills classes at a community
resource agency, and as a pastor a local church. He is an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in
America serving as Pastor of Discipleship at Hope Church, a proudly open and affirming congregation in
Holland. He is also a board member for Out on the Lakeshore – a community center serving West
Michigan’s LGBTQ+ population.

Phil enjoys working with adolescents and adults as they explore their identities and core values, process
trauma, and find meaning in their experiences. He uses an integrated psychodynamic, internal family
systems, and narrative therapy lens with the use of appropriate diagnosis, assessment, and evidence-
based interventions. Phil comes to the therapeutic relationship with a person-centered approach, where
compassion, empathy, and non-judgement are core elements of the healing work. He especially loves to
work with members of the LGBTQ+ community, artists, creatives, and fellow geeks. Phil is passionate
about integrating story into the therapeutic work: both the stories of the client’s lived experience and
the stories they know and love – from comic books and movies to video games and tabletop roleplaying
games.

Whether in the counseling office, facilitating groups, or through writing, speaking, and advocacy, Phil is
dedicated to creating and facilitating safe spaces where people can heal, grow, and know that they
matter and belong.
